Youth Services

MFNH offers programs that support youth ages 5-12. Our programs provide a safe, nurturing and educational environment that focus on social-emotional development, positive identity, academic enrichment and leadership development. We partner with local high schools, universities and organizations to provide a variety of educational experiences and mentorship opportunities.

Leaders of  Today Peace Academy After School Program (5 – 12)

Designed to enhance the quality of the out-of-school time experience and support the mental, emotional growth and well-being of each child and their families. Children will be learning about health and wellness for themselves, in their relationships, and in their communities. Their work throughout the school year will help prepare them to be active citizens who operate with the core concepts of Kindness and Respect and understand that not only do their voices matter but also that their voices are needed. Students will gain awareness of college and career opportunities and understand that these opportunities are for them; they will become more aware of resources and how to utilize them. They will also gain greater awareness of cultural difference and how to approach inequities with strong voices and actively engaged minds.

Leaders of  Today Summer Peace Academy (5 – 12 campers, 13 – 17 youth councilors)

The 2018 summer camp at the Margaret Fuller Neighborhood House, previously known as ‘Summer Explorations’, is now the Leaders of Today Summer Peace Academy.This change reflects our desire to make camp a more purposeful and mission-driven learning opportunity. Camp activities this summer will include an increased focus on leadership, social justice, and community activism. Through a partnership with the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute, children will have the opportunity to participate in Peacezone, a curriculum that teaches campers peace through positive decisions. Our students will also be volunteering on a weekly basis in order to learn the value of community activism. They’ll work on their own social justice strategies in order to help bring attention to issues about which they are concerned and will meet local individuals who are pursuing careers of interest to them. 4th-6th grade campers will be visiting the JFK Museum and Library and the Kennedy Institute and make weekly college visits in order to learn the value of early leadership, higher education, and careers that impact their community.
